In a landmark move, New York State has partnered with eight other states in a bold commitment to escalate all-climate electric heat pump installations—a crucial stride towards greater energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Basil Seggos, the commissioner of New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation, highlights that emissions from buildings are the state’s primary pollution source. This collaborative move not only aims to provide cost-saving alternatives but also serves as a beacon for nationwide environmental reform.
The coalition, embracing states like California, Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, and Rhode Island, has agreed to a plan that seeks to boost the use of heat pump systems. By 2030, the alliance anticipates that heat pumps will constitute 65 percent of all new heating and cooling system sales, a figure expected to rise to 90 percent by 2040. Heat pump technology transfers heat rather than generating it through combustion, offering a cleaner, efficient energy-saving method of heating and cooling homes.
Ice Air, a frontrunner and innovator in heat pump technology, is set to significantly contribute to this educational and transitional effort.
